F.A.Q.
What is the difference between Collagen and Collagen Extra?
The main difference between the two formulas lies in their purpose: Collagen is a preventative solution, while Collagen Extra takes a therapeutic approach. Collagen aims to revitalize skin, strengthen hair and nails, and support joint health. Enriched with natural anti-inflammatory agents, Collagen Extra promotes joint repair, helps reduce inflammation, and aids in muscle relaxation.
What is collagen?
Collagen is a so-called “structural” protein, meaning it shapes organisms by contributing to their structure, much like a “glue” for tissues. It is also the most abundant protein in the body, representing 80% of the weight of connective tissues and forming 30% of the body’s total proteins. Collagen is essential for tissue cohesion, elasticity, and regeneration.
There are more than a dozen types of collagen present in various tissues throughout the body (bones, cartilage, skin, cornea, tendons, blood vessels, etc.).
Aging is one of the main causes of collagen deficiency. In fact, collagen production begins to decline in our thirties, at a rate of 1 to 1.5% per year. At this rate, 30% less collagen will be produced by age 50.
What is the best type of collagen?
There are about a dozen types of collagen (1, 2, etc.). What differentiates them from each other is the sequence (order) of the amino acids that compose them.
Our bodies don’t recognize the types of collagen from supplements. What we absorb are the amino acids. These are like building blocks that our bodies use to form the different types of collagen it needs.
The key is to ensure a sufficient and absorbable supply of amino acids. If the collagen is extensively hydrolyzed (i.e., the amino acids are free), the body will be able to use them to synthesize the required type of collagen.
What are the positive effects of collagen on the skin?
With age, the decrease in collagen in the dermis leads to the appearance of wrinkles. The skin tends to wrinkle as it loses its elasticity. This is why collagen is found in many cosmetic products. However, it’s important to know that collagen creams don’t make wrinkles disappear. Indeed, collagen is too large a molecule to reach the dermis from the outside. Creams are mainly used to soften the skin, as collagen cream is a very good moisturizer that doesn’t make it greasy.
